I need help finding student loans for my first year in college!?

Many of the lenders I have been reading about require that the student have their parent co-sign the loan. Also, these same lenders do credit checks on the co-signer. Since I don't have any credit myself, I would have to have my mom co-sign, but she has horrible credit. Are there loans out there that allow a person with no credit to take out a loan? Are there loans that don't do credit checks?
