How much should a beginner expect to pay for a guitar?

Take a buddy or someone maybe a family member who knows guitars, and if you have them, hit the local pawn shop. New is nice, but unless your mum has some bucks, it's gonna be expensive. You can get a great one at a great price there, if you take someone along with you who knows about guitars.
