Is Perfect Pitch a Myth?

"Perfect pitch" is better called "absolute pitch". It is a type of musical memory, where you memorise the pitch at which things are normally played. It can be learned by practice, but is not a very useful technique. Much more important is a good sense of relative pitch, which is essential for singing in tune and for playing in almost all instruments except the keyboard instruments.
